Brand Design FAQ:
Questions
A few common questions about working together, from pricing and process to what’s included in a brand identity:
How much does it cost to hire a brand identity designer?
Every project is a little different, so I begin with an introductory call to assess your needs, goals, and overall scope. From there, I’ll put together a clear quote based on what your project actually requires. Prices vary from scope to scope.
What is included in a brand identity package?
Most projects include a logo system, color palette, typography system, supporting graphic elements, and brand guidelines. Additional pieces like packaging, motion, collateral, or website design can be added depending on your needs.
What’s the difference between a logo and a brand identity?
A logo is one part of your brand identity. A full identity creates a larger visual system around it including color, typography, graphic elements, and guidelines so your brand feels consistent wherever it shows up.
What is your brand design process?
We start with strategy, followed by visual direction and a mood board. From there, I develop the identity, present the concept, refine it through feedback, and create the final brand guidelines and files.
How many logo concepts will I receive?
I normally use a one-concept approach. Rather than presenting several disconnected ideas, I develop one thoughtful direction based on the strategy we establish together. We then use the revision process to explore and refine that direction. Once we have that initial presentation and we have a clear direction, I am then able to showcase multiple logo options with a clear point of view.
How long does a brand identity project take?
Most identity projects take four weeks to eight weeks, depending on the scope and deliverables. Before we begin, I’ll provide a clear schedule so you know what to expect throughout the process.
Can you redesign an existing brand?
Yes. I work on both new identities and rebrands. Depending on what’s already working, that could mean refining your existing brand or developing an entirely new visual direction.
Do you work with clients outside of Dallas?
Absolutely. I’m based in Dallas, Texas, but I work remotely with clients throughout the United States and internationally. The entire process can be handled through video calls, presentations, shared files, and scheduled feedback.
How many revisions are included in a brand identity project?
Most brand identity projects include two to three rounds of revisions. The goal is to use those rounds to thoughtfully refine the direction rather than start over with completely new concepts.
What files will I receive at the end of a branding project?
You’ll receive final brand assets prepared for both digital and print use, including the approved logo variations and supporting identity elements. Your brand guidelines will also outline your colors, typography, and how to use the identity consistently.
Will I own my final logo and brand identity?
Once the project is complete and final payment has been made, you’ll receive the approved brand assets for use by your business. Any specific usage or licensing details will be clearly outlined before the project begins.
What do I need before hiring a brand designer?
You don’t need to have everything figured out before we begin. A basic understanding of your business, audience, goals, and where you’d like to grow is enough to start. The brand strategy process helps us work through the rest together.
How do I choose the right brand designer for my business?
Look beyond individual logos and consider the designer’s overall process, strategy, case studies, and ability to build a complete visual system. It’s also important to find someone whose communication style and approach feel like a good fit for your business. Strategy is another key fit here, designing without a clear understanding of it usually results in miscommunications between the designer and the client.
Do you offer logo-only design?
Yes, depending on the needs of the project. For many businesses, I recommend developing the logo alongside typography, color, and supporting elements so everything works together as a cohesive identity.
Can you work with my existing logo?
Yes. If your existing logo is still working for your business, we can look at building a stronger visual system around it rather than replacing it. I also include branding audits for existing brands to give you an idea of what your logo could improve on. This might include new typography, colors, graphic elements, or brand guidelines.
Do you design packaging as part of a branding project?
Yes. Packaging can be developed alongside a new brand identity or added as a separate phase once the core identity has been established. The scope will depend on the number of products, formats, and variations needed.
What happens during an introductory call with a brand designer?
The introductory call is a chance for me to learn about your business, what you need, your goals, and the overall scope of the project. It also gives us a chance to see if we’re a good fit before I put together a project recommendation and quote.
